Brit Spaugh Zoo

Exciting things happen at Brit Spaugh Zoo! Founded in 1952, this free Zoo is one of Great Bend's biggest attractions. The Zoo is dedicated to the conservation, preservation and rescue of animals and the education and entertainment of children and adults. It is home to over 100 mammals, birds, reptiles, and insects. From elegant tigers to regal lions, the Zoo shelters and preserves animals and gives visitors a chance to observe and learn about the natural world. Come check out the new aligators!

Zoo Highlights

Pride of Great Bend - A pride of three lions, a male and two females, live in a natural habitat constructed just for them. The lions were hand-raised at the Zoo and their area invites visitors to view their majesty from many angles.

Spirit of Great Bend - The Spirit is a rare, white Bengal tiger who shares his specially designed quarters with his more typical orange Bengal brother. The tigers came to the Zoo as 3-month-old cubs.

Bears & Mountain Lions - Black bears and mountain lions make their home in the new North American section with plenty of climbing and sunning space.

North American Exhibit - A pleasant, paved walking path surrounds this exhibit. See American bison, elk, wolves, bald and golden eagles, and other animals natural to the North American continent.

More Animals - Reptiles, kangaroos, wallabies, emus, African crowned cranes, coyotes, Canadian lynx, monkeys, swans, singing dogs and more...

Tours & Programs -Get up close and personal with a guided tour of the Zoo or a program presented just for your group. Call the Zoo: (620) 793-4162 for rates and reservations.

Wings of Wonder - When the weather is nice, the Zoo offers amazing bird shows. Audiences get a chance to observe birds such as hawks, vultures, owls (and the occasional parrot) up close. The Zoo's presenters are dynamic and include magic and lots of bird facts. Wings of Wonder bird shows are a great way to learn and have fun.

Donations taken at the Wings of Wonder shows are used to support another Zoo project, the Central Kansas Raptor Rehab. The Raptor Rehab exists to rescue and rehabilitate injured birds of prey and return them to the wild.

To find out when Wings of Wonder shows are scheduled, to book a private bird show, or to get more information about the Raptor Rehab, contact Brit Spaugh Zoo at 620-793-4160.

Zoo hours - 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily
(closed Thanksgiving, Christmas & New Year's Day)
