Great
Bend's central location in the state as well as its enviable position
in the very center of the Central Flyway makes it the ideal home
base for both upland game and waterfowl hunting. Within one hour
of Great Bend there are over 58,000 acres of public hunting area
- including Cheyenne Bottoms Wildlife Area and Quivira National
Wildlife Refuge.
In
addition to thousands of acres of public land, the Walk-In Hunting
Area (WIHA) program developed by Kansas Wildlife and Parks cooperates
with area landowners to allow hunting on approximately 4,500 acres
of private land in Barton and surrounding counties. To get a copy

Great
Bend boasts fine fishing in City lakes and the Bottoms. Great
Bend also makes a good base for lake fishing - within just an
hour's drive, anglers can enjoy the diverse fishing experiences
at Wilson or Kanopolis Lake.

Bottoms Wildlife Area - 13,416 acres. 5 miles north, 2 miles

Wildlife Area - 8,039 acres. 57 miles northeast of Great Bend.

Reservoir - 13,000 acres. 45 miles northeast of Great Bend.

National Wildlife Refuge - 8,000 acres open to hunting. 25
miles southeast of Great Bend.

of Great Bend
