SRCA Dragstrip

The SRCA Dragstrip right here in Great Bend is home of the first ever NHRA National Event in 1955, which hosted 219 drag racers and 15,000 spectators! After Lloyd Scott set a new speed record for American drag racing at this track in 1959, the track slowly begun to decline and the club disbanded. In 1993, the club reorganized under the same title, Sunflower Rod and Custom Association. The club pursued recognition as a Kansas Historical Site and succeeded in getting that title in 1994.

  • The facilities include paved pit areas with electricity hook ups.
  • In 2000, the track was resurfaced and in 2003, a new compu-link system was installed and a new concession building was built with air conditioned restrooms with showers.

  • In 2011, construction on a new tower was completed and 1320-go live timing was installed along with the addition of concrete barriers spanning from the quarter-mile to crossover road for safety.

Regular races take place about twice a month between the months of March and October.

Events for the dragstrip can be found in our Calendar of Events under the Events tab.
