The Nature Conservancy's goal at Cheyenne Bottoms is to protect waterfowl and shorebirds alike by restoring and protecting natural marshes and mud flats. The Nature Conservancy seeks to preserve and maintain these vital wetlands so that the multitudes of migrating birds, which have relied on this great marsh for thousands of years, may continue to find safe haven.

• The Nature Conservancy owns and manages nearly 8,000 acres of the Cheyenne Bottoms basin. Wetlands are natural water control systems that filter sediment from water, prevent flooding, refill underground water systems, and make perfect resting spots for millions of shorebirds and waterfowl.
  
  
• Bird watching and wildlife viewing is always welcome at the preserve. An observation tower is available for public use, located south of Highway 4 between the two large marshes to offer an elevated view of the wetlands.
  
  
• Information about the preserve is available at two different kiosks. At these kiosks you can find maps, locations of restrooms, best viewing points, and wildlife information
